FAQs for Marquee Hire

  • What size marquee do I need?

You marquee size depends on a few factors:

How many seated guests you are inviting, any additional standing guests and whether you are having  a bar and a dance floor as these all take up space.

For example if you are having 70 seated guests with a small bar area and dance floor , your traditional type marquee size would be a 40ft x 40ft. You can seat approx 70 guests in a 40ft x 20ft half area, leaving the second 40ft x 20ft area for your dance floor and small bar area.

  • How far in advance do I need to book my marquee?

Generally for weddings brides like to be very organised and will book approx 12 – 18 months in advance, however it has been known to book a wedding marquee 4 months in advance if the availability is there!

Any smaller marquees can be ordered within a weeks’ notice.

  • How much does a marquee cost?

Costing of a marquee depends on individual requirements.  For example:

A small garden party marquee can be as little as £250 or a small, less formal wedding could start from approx £1,500.

  • Do I need a site visit?

Mostly we like to attend a site visit, this way there are no unpleasant surprises when we arrive to set up.  If however a picture can be sent showing the ground and full measurements are available we are happy to proceed with this.  We have also pitched our marquees at the majority of Norfolk's beautiful event locations so we may well know the site well!

  • What is the difference between a pole and frame marquee?

A pole marquee has centre wooden support poles every 20ft through the centre of your marquee with external guy ropes and stakes around the outer perimeter. Made of canvas or pvc and these are suitable for grass sites only.

A frame marquee is a pvc free standing aluminium structure with no inner supports or obstructions and no external guy ropes. These can be placed on a hard or grass sites.

  • Can I attach a marquee to an existing building?

We can butt up to a building with a frame type marquee and in some cases make them water tight to the building… subject to a site visit .

  • Will a marquee damage my lawn?

For a weekend event the length of time the marquee will be on your grass will not be long enough for it to damage it.  It will be short of some sunlight for a while, but will soon spring back within a few days.

  • When do you put up and take down the marquee?

For a wedding we make sure the marquee is yours to freely dress and decorate by Thursday p.m. prior to a Saturday event. In some cases this can even be a day or so earlier if we have availability. We look to start dismantling your event on the Monday / Tuesday after your weekend event or even on a Sunday if you would prefer.

  • Do I need a heater?

Generally you only require our thermostatic in the cooler months from Oct – early May , however we have plenty in stock so if you feel a cooler night is present on your event date, we will always pop one in for you.

  • Will we need additional power?

Depending on the amount of electrical items you need we can offer one of our super silent generators for you if there is no electric supply close by.  Sometimes you may only need a heavy duty cable and a distribution board and have your own electrician connect but this can all be discussed upon your site visit. Our lighting only requires a 13amp supply, so often for smaller events, our lead into your own supply is sufficient.

  • Are marquees suitable for winter events?

Yes our marquee are wonderfully warm for winter weddings. We have thermostatic heating which works the same as your homes and heats your marquee instantly, controlled by independent thermostats.

  • Do you provide loos?

We do supply luxury, self-contained toilets, complete with everything you need including fresh flowers!  All we require to make this happen for you is an electric supply, which we can either route in to your mains or via one of our generators.

  • Where do the caterers work?

The caterers generally work from a catering marquee attached by a porch to the main marquee. These are fully matted with lights, tables and a screen so guests cannot see and hear all the busy chefs and staff. Smaller events sometimes use their own kitchens and we can always add a walkway if the weather is against us and the site offers this facility.

  • Do I need to pay a deposit?

We do not ask for deposit just your future invoice address to secure your booking.  An invoice will be sent after your event.

  • Can I pay in installments?

On some occasions we have accepted this request and will certainly oblige if this is preferred.
